Doctor of Medicine is a programme for medical professionals – who hold a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree or equivalent – to obtain a research degree on a par academically with the PhD.
Studying for a doctoral course builds foundations of an academic career as well as enable to develop excellent research skills and become an expert in specific field while pursuing passion.
Students will take on research that draws on clinical expertise, and study may involve clinical trials, epidemiology, laboratory-based research, systematic review, social science or qualitative methodologies. Research projects, allied to the area in which the candidate is currently employed, can be undertaken across the whole spectrum of medical science from basic biology to clinical therapies.
