A level 2 qualification is similar to having a GCSE at grade A*–C or 4-9, and are often achieved in Years 10 and 11 by 14- to 16-year-olds (adults can take them as well).
Level 2 courses give learners the skills and knowledge to do a particular job, work in a particular industry, or acquire more general skills to do a variety of jobs for better career prospects or pursue further study at Level 3.
Examples of Level 2 qualifications include general academic and vocationally related courses such as GCSE Grades 4- 9; Level 2 functional or essential skills; Level 2 awards and diplomas; Level 2 certificates; Level 2 NVQ; Music grades 4 and 5; Intermediate apprenticeships, and Level 2 ESOL.
