A level 1 qualification is similar to having a GCSE at grades D–G or 1-3. , and are often achieved in Years 10 and 11 of secondary school by 14 to 16 year olds (adults can take them as well).
Level 1 courses give learners the skills and knowledge to do a particular job, work in a particular industry, or acquire more general skills to do a variety of jobs for better career prospects or pursue further study at Level 2.
Examples of Level 1 qualifications include general academic and vocationally related courses such as GCSE (grades 1-3); Level 1 functional or essential skills; Level 1 awards and diplomas; Level 1 certificates; Level 1 National Vocational Qualification (NVQ); Music grades 1, 2 and 3; and Level 1 ESOL.
