Extending your Tier 4 student visa

International students from outside the UK or EU must apply for a student visa. If you are already in the UK on a study visa, then you may be able to stay longer to continue your course or study a new one.

To extend your visa, you must:

• meet the eligibility requirements of this visa
• be in the UK
• have a sponsor

To extend you visa in the UK, you must have –

• an unconditional offer of a place on a course with a licensed Tier 4 sponsor
• enough money to support yourself and pay for your course – the amount will vary depending on your circumstances

You must apply:

• within 6 months of getting a confirmation of acceptance for studies (CAS)
• before your current visa expires – but no more than 3 months before the course start date on your CAS
• apply online. When you apply, you’ll be asked to make an appointment at a UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services (UKVCAS) service point to provide your biometric information (your fingerprints and a photo).

You can stay in the UK until you get your decision.
